In the heart of Trentino Alto Adige there is an amazing route. Climbing up and down like sitting on a swing, the emotions felt along this magic path, leads you to the greatness of these mountains: The Dolomites, part of the Unesco heritage site since June 2009. The effort to get to the top is big as the Sella Ronda’s walls are, but the satisfaction you get from this experience is huge.
No race, no rush, no competition except than with yourself.
A week spent on this itinerary gives you all of this: skiing and snowshoeing during winter or hiking and cycling in summer. Isn’t this the real and deep “meaning” of the mountain?
The tour of 4 Passi
4×4. Four passes for four different style of life and four different way to live the mountain: by motorbike, by bike, walking or skiing. What we are talking about is “The route”, the journey you should consider a MUST, the tour of the 4 passes.
Three cities – Trento, Bolzano and Belluno – two regions- Trentino Alto-Adige and Veneto – and four pass Passo Sella, Passo Pordoi, Passo Campolongo, Passo Gardena. These are the most important name of the Tour. It is not easy to explain, you just need to experience it…. By bike, by ski or just trekking, you will fill in your legs, in your breath, in your body. Step by step. Trying to achieve the finish line who looks like never to arrive. You can run this itinerary round and back from east to west and reverse, just decide the Dolomites lookout you love the most!
The tour of “4 Passi” by bike
Black and white pictures from the past remind of Italian cyclists Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali, fighting during the Giro di Italia, a memorable competition that the 2 wheels fan can’t forget. You have to push on bike pedals, hold tight on the handlebar and run to the top! Twice a year Italy celebrate this magic race with two different events that are the most important in the Dolomites scenario: the Marathon on the first Sunday of July and the SellaRonda Bike Day a non-competitive race, for non-pro adventures.
Walking the “4 Passi”
For us, these 4 passes mean a not completed excursion…. At that time, a young 4 months old puppy gave up, (our lovely pet) and we decided not to move forward … We advise parents who want to complete the tour with kids, to check the maximum altitude you will achieve, so you can avoid getting to the top too fast, with a cableway for instance. If you hike the trial, you’ll need to use wintertime ski lifts, but no worries if you give up before the end… busses along the way will pick you up and bring you back to the start.
Skiing the “4 Passi”
Since I was a child I knew about this magic tour and I spoke about that memories to the snowboarder “Papà Rospo” (Daddy Toad), who now can’t wait to start this experience… as soon as we can. Skiing there is a truly unique experience! 26 km. no stop in the “Dolomiti Superski area”, all day long, just skiing in different tracks and enjoying the amazing walls of Porta Vescovo.
But if sports activities do not fit you, just take your car and easily drive the 65 km. of Sella Ronda. Take your time, enjoy the amazing landscape and spend a night in one of the B&B or “pensione” in one of the typical small villages along the Giro di Italia – Tour of Italy – route.
These are the mountains we love! These mountains full of “Ladine” traditions, history and magic, hospitality, warm people and amazing landscape. All of these give us peace, warm up our heart and make our holiday a dream coming true.
