Do you remember our romantic gateway in the Marche region? Nature, relax, lots of space for the kids to explore and a wonderful spa for mom and dad. What else can you desire? Well, what about a Michelin-starred family restaurant where you can taste the finest Italian food? Believe me, I am not kidding!
The restaurant is called Madonnina del Pescatore, located in Senigallia – a wonderful seaside town less than two hours drive from Bologna and three hours from Florence and Rome. The restaurant has been awared with two Michelin stars and listed among the best ten fish restaurants in Europe by the Wall Street Journal. The dining room is elegant yet simple and cosy; everything communicates a soft and comfortable sobriety. Large windows overlooking the sea and a row of glasses lined up. Orange tulips on the tables. And a bookcase covering an entire wall, full of books and magazines. Small playful details, which reveal a joyful soul, Moreno Cedroni‘s one – chef and patron of the restaurant.
I love the idea of flipping through the pages of a book, while waiting to be served with a gourmet meal. It makes me feel at home…
And, while I was looking for a book to read, my eyes were catched by something peeping out of the bottom shelf. Incredible! This Michelin-starred restaurant has books, games and placemats for children! A Michelin-starred family restaurant? Is it a dream or is it true?
My question can not remain unanswered. So, I asked Mariella, Moreno’s wife and restaurant maître. She smiled at me and explained that their restaurant welcomes children and pets. She also told me that every now and then, it happened that they put up inflatable bed so that kids can have a nap while mom and dad enojoy late dinner. Of course, this is still a gourmet place.
So, if I had to go with kids, I would probably choose to eat here at lunch as it is not as busy as dinner. Also, do not go for the tasting menu; it would take too long to finish and children would not bear it… However, if you want to taste delicious and high cusine food, especially seafood and fish, this is the place.
In short, what makes a restaurant “a great restaurant”? Fresh and high quality ingredients, cooking techniques, contrasts, textures. Sure. But also the courage not to be overly elitist. What I can hardly forget about Moreno Cedroni’s cuisine is the happiness that his menu has given me.
People need to color, play, lightness, fun. Something I have found in the food I have tested here. Look at this fanstastic Piña Colada, for example: cotton candy with dried pineapple, to be poached in the Verdicchio wine mixed with alcoholic jellies.
Or this plate insipired to Little Thumb fairy-tale…
Isn’t it inspiring?
