Every one of us has its special place.
A B&B, a farm, or a hotel accommodation strictly kept in the heart. Hotel La Madonnina del Gran Paradiso has earned a place of honor. It is based in the heart of Aosta Valley, in the tiny village of Cogne. We went there for an autumn city break. Two hours drive from Milan. Friday evening, no rush, no traffic. The two of us chatting along the way and our little son snoring blessed in the back seat.
During that weekend we had the chance to jump deep in the traditions of a mountain village at the foot of Gran Paradiso National Park. We went there to attend the annual cattle drive, where herd usually comes back home from mountain pastures. The event is called Desarpa, in the local dialect.
We were guests in the beautiful hotel La Madonnina del Gran Paradiso, owned and managed by Davide and Federica, brother and sister who have inherited this great hotel from their parents.
Hotel la Madonnina Cogne – Hotel and SPA
The history of this hotel is closely related to their family affair.
Davide and Federica where kids and used to play there. In the early ’50s from a small holiday home, (that now houses the reception), many rooms of different types and sizes were created, but all united by an immense attention to details.
Furnishings, textiles, accessories. You hear all the passion of this family walking through the rooms, hallways and dining rooms. Every inch of this hotel communicates love for hospitality.
Over the years the hotel has grown and has been completely renovated in 2009, becoming the superb hotel you can meet today. Three suites, superior rooms, a larger breakfast room and a superb spa area with an outdoor Jacuzzi have completed the building.
The Spa is a real plus for the hotel La Madonnina! It has a great overlooking on the meadows giving guests the magical “well-being feeling” that only a mountain holiday can offer.
Kids are welcomed in the spa area, with a dedicated access time during the afternoon.
The rooms at family hotel in Aosta Valley
All rooms are designed in typical mountain style. Superior rooms and suites maintain a slightly modern design, but guests feel the charming atmosphere of home. Warm wooden furniture, lace, embroidery and details that recall the manufactures of the Alps. A pure wonder for mountain lovers.
Every room is fully equipped with hairdryer, spa bathrobes and for guests staying in the suites, a wonderful Jacuzzi for private and family relax. Unforgettable! Even for our kidtrotter!
Suites and superior rooms have also some beautiful terraces ideal for children to play while Moms and Dads read a book or chill-out contemplates the wonder of the Alps.
Delicious cuisine at family hotel in Aosta Valley
Unfortunately we did not dine at the hotel, since we tasted some delicious restaurants of Cogne, but I must admit that the smell we felt passing in front of the dining room was amazing! So no doubts about the quality and standards of La Madonnina’s cuisine.
We tasted succulent freshly prepared breakfasts, with cakes, pastries and savory that were accompanied by an endless buffet with homemade cheese, jam, yogurt and fresh seasonal fruits.
So, if you plan to stay there with half board, go-ahead!!
Kids facilities for this family hotel in Aosta Valley
La Madonnina is a fantastic hotel, able to lull you into a relaxing holiday that will completely make you at ease. In Cogne the atmosphere is extremely simple and refined at the same time, but far from being haughty or detached. The hotel staff is extremely reserved, but smiley and available when needed.
At first glance the hotel might resemble ideal for couple vacations, but great attention is given to little ones and to families with children. High care of food offered, with special meals for kids, main facilities for babies and a great area where toddlers can play safe and free.
You and your kids will rest and enjoy your time, trying to figure out a date on your agenda to come back as soon as possible!

Yes it is!! And we loved it very much!!!
Very nice, but did you take the opportunity to go on any hikes? I think I’d usually stay in a chalet-like hotel like this only if it was situated reasonably close to a point of interest, and since these are the mountains, I’d focus on that.
Hi Milosz!! Yesssss we did!! We had to chance to be there on the cattle drive weekend and had so much fun! Cogne is just so close to Gran Paradiso National Park and if you’r a hiker you can’t miss paths over there!!!
