To enjoy life you must do something crazy sometime, as we did last week. I was working on a new article for the blog, when my husband called me: “customers have cancelled the scheduled date. Pack up the luggage: we are going to spa“.
Few seconds of absolute silence occured before I could react. Thousands of thoughts were inside my head and the list of “things to do” still in front of me. At the end I said “YESSSSS! It’s a superb idea and I know where to go …” When you’ve heard your architect friend enthusiastically speaking about the stylish design of a new spa hotel inaugurated 100 km from home, you don’t have doubt: that’s the right place for your two-days relaxing break.
Aqualux: the new eco-hotel in the Lake Garda
Aqualux is in Bardolino, one of the lovely towns mirroring in the clear waters of Lake Garda. Verona is just 30 km far away, but here everything is different: the people, the light, the perfume in the air. A paradise where you can switch off your mind and enjoy the mild climate which characterizes the biggest Italian lake.
Aqualux is the realm of water (aqua) and light (lux), as the Latin origin of its name evokes.
The huge French windows are the keynote for both the bedrooms and the common spaces. And water is everywhere …
The design waterfall, you find entering in the wonderful garden, catches immediately your eyes.
Water is all around the sunny restaurant’s terrace where you can have breakfast during the summer
and a sweet bubbling sound whispers you “good night” while you are counting the stars from your room’s balcony.
The hotel opened in June 2012 and has 80 eco-friendly rooms and 33 suites. Some of the suites are 60 square meters wide and are equipped with a big circle bed and two bathrooms – one with a spacious shower, the other with Jacuzzi.
We stayed in one of the Aqua Rooms, looking on the lush courtyard and having a double sofa-bed for children.
At Aqualux there are two restaurants: Drops Food & Wine serves à la carte dishes and is open for locals too; Italian Taste is exclusively reserved to hotel’s guests having half board service.
We had dinner here and food is very good. You can choose the first dish and the main course among 4 different proposals, while starters, vegetables and dessert are at buffet. Of course, all the dishes are typical of the regional cuisine.
AquaExperience and AquaSpa & Wellness
AquaExperience is the in-and-outdoor area equipped with 8 pools. Seven of them have warm natural mineral water; the salty one is outside and can be closed in the cold months.
While me and Riadh sunbathed and relaxed in the outdoor Whirlpool stations and in the amazing panoramic Jacuzzi, Samir spent the whole day jumping from one pool to the other. He, of course, completely ignored the two small children pools and had a lot of fun repeating dozens of time the circuit with running water.
The 1,000 square meters AquaSpa is the paradise of wellness and well-being. The prohibition of access to children under 16, ensures the maximum of peace and tranquility in this area, which offer 3 different temperature saunas, a Turkish bath, caldarium, an oasis for the ladies and an exclusive Private Spa for the couples.
Of course, with a child, we could not test the Private Spa, but Riadh felt at home in the Turkish bath and I enjoyed the Quirogolf … one incredible hour massage with two golf balls!
What we like about Aqualux
The eco-friendly and stylish architecture, the lush courtyard and the care in wellness treatments are the core attractions of Aqualux and it is impossible not to be struck by them. But what we really loved was the sense of peace you can experience everywhere and the width of spaces: the hotel was almost full and it seemed we were alone!
Aqualux is not a family hotel, but children up to 6 years are welcome guests for free and there is a kids’ menù in order to satisfy their tastes. The pools do the rest … so, few hours after our arrival, Samir asked me: “what about moving here to live?”
What we don’t like about it
Internet is on charge. It’s not particulary expensive (€ 6 for 24 hours and € 20 for 7 days), but since I am a web 2.0 mom, I would like to have it free.
Good to know
- how to get there: the nearest railway stations are in Peschiera del Garda (12 km) and in Verona (30 km). If you arrive by car, take the highway A4 and exit at Peschiera del Garda
- where to park: the hotel has an underground garage and it’s included in the room’s rate
- closed: from January 6th to middle of March
- rates: from € 165 for B&B service in double room; extra charge of € 25 per person for half-board service; children are allowed for free up to 6 years and have 50% discount up to 14
- kids facilities: kids’ menù, high-chair, baby-cot, outdoor and indoor children swimming pool, baby-sitting on request
- nearby: Bardolino’s downtown and the lake are at 5 minutes walking; Verona is at 30 km and the most famous amusement park of Lake Garda (Gardaland, Caneva World, Movieland Studios, Zoo Safari) are few km far away
